what do you need to do your best work.

Some people say you need a certain kind of personality to thrive in the corporate world.

Based on my personal experience and recent trends, I feel like they’re onto something.

You should be confident and outspoken but still fit the company’s culture.

You should also be resilient, adaptable, constantly proactive, and emotionally smart while acting strategically—quite a few requirements, I know.

But if you’re feeling out of place in a company, starting your own business might not be the perfect solution either.

While we all dream of dodging layoffs and back-to-the-office policies, not everyone can or wants to start something of their own.

So, this is a post for everyone who is stuck in their jobs but needs to create some wiggle room—either in their work environment or in their minds.

Switching up your schedule and surroundings is great, but creating some mental space can work wonders, too.

Here are a few questions that could inspire some changes:

  • What kind of work puts you in the flow by tapping into your strengths? What are you genuinely curious about? Are there tasks you could tweak or projects you could join to bring more of this into your day?

  • What kind of support system do you need at work? What feedback lights you up and helps you grow? Sharing your needs could be the first step toward more open communication and mutual understanding in your team.

  • Do you thrive in a quiet space or a lively hub? Are you most creative early in the morning or later in the day? Do you get the chance to shuffle your tasks to reflect your energy levels?

  • How can you show yourself some compassion at work? Research shows it boosts performance—so what boundaries, breaks, or little acts of self-kindness are non-negotiables to keep you safe and healthy?
