making peace with money.

Money has always been my biggest worry about starting my own business.

Not just in the ‘can I pay my bills?’ sense (although, that too), but mostly because profitability isn’t exactly my top priority.

I can think of so many things I care more about—making my business inclusive, creative, authentic, accessible, and fulfilling.

But, well, none of those can happen unless I actually make enough money to keep going.

And while I still believe money doesn’t have to come first when building something yours, I’m learning to give it the space it deserves in my goals and plans.

Here’s what’s helped me so far:

  • Visualizing all the great things I could do if I invest back into my business once I make more than just what’s needed to cover my bills.

  • Letting go of the idea that I suck at this (because even if I did, it’s just a skill I can work on).

  • Accepting that sales is just one of the many tasks that come with a business—a role I have to take on, but one that doesn’t define me or take away from my values.

So if you’ve been holding back on starting something of your own because you’re not “business-minded”—don’t.

You can figure out an approach that works for you, and it’ll probably turn out okay. Because there isn’t just one way to run a business.

And if you’re looking for support from someone who never thought they’d be doing this either, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
