make your work visible.
When I was working for my last company, I put a lot of effort into projects that no one even noticed.
Which, to be fair, wasn’t anyone’s fault but mine.
People are busy, and they won’t wonder what you’re up to unless you let them know.
Which is a lovely realization when you don’t like getting attention—but not exactly helpful when it comes to being recognized for your work.
Because your work deserves to be seen. So here are some visibility tips that could feel a little less uncomfortable:
Don’t wait until something is finished to talk about it. What are you figuring out right now? What’s something you’ve learned? These moments are just as valuable as the final result.
Make it easy for others to see your impact. The more you highlight your strengths, the better people understand what you're great at—and the more likely you are to get projects you actually enjoy.
Connect your work to the company’s goals. A project might be meaningful to you, but if it’s not clearly linked to what the company cares about, it’ll be harder to get recognition (or resources).
Keep track of your wins. When you’re busy, it’s easy to forget how much you’ve actually done. Keep a list so it’s easier to bring things up when it matters.
Support others, too. Visibility isn’t just about you (yay!)—it’s about lifting up the work around you. The more you celebrate others, the more natural it becomes for them to do the same for you.
I know that making your work visible can feel pretty awkward.
But really, it’s just about making sure people know what you’re great at—so you can do more of the work you actually want to do.
