resume crafting in small doses.

Most of us only update our resumes and LinkedIn profiles when we absolutely have to, which can feel pretty overwhelming.

But if you give them a little love more regularly, it’s much less painful.

I’ve found that a quick refresh twice a year makes a big difference—Spring and Autumn seem like good times for it.

Here’s a simple guide that might help:

  • Start with a quick career check-in. Take a moment to think about how work’s been going. What’s feeling good? What needs some attention? No pressure here—just notice where you’re at and where you might want to go.

  • Celebrate your wins. Make a note of any projects you have been busy with, plus any learnings and metrics you have. Don’t worry about keeping things brief for now—include anything that feels relevant and makes you proud. Later, you can use some tools to help showcase your impact (Teal is helpful here).

  • Audit your digital presence. How’s your LinkedIn profile looking? Maybe it’s time to clear out some connections from your feed that don’t lift you up and reach out to people who inspire you. You could also ask a friend (maybe a recruiter friend) if your profile and pic still feel like "you.”

  • Add any new skills or certifications. If you’ve learned something new or completed a course, update your profile. It’s a great reminder of how much you’ve grown, and it helps recruiters find you more easily.

  • Set a reminder for yourself. Schedule a quick check-in on your calendar twice a year to keep things up to date. That way, you won’t have to rush when a new opportunity pops up.

I know it’s not the most exciting task, but updating things in small doses can be much less stressful than doing it all at once.

And when it's time for your next move, you’ll be so glad you did the prep-work.

If you’d like support with all of this—don’t hesitate to get in touch.
