personal branding is worth the pain.

It’s been well over six months, and honestly, I still dread posting on LinkedIn (or other social media). Whoever said I’d eventually get used to it was way too optimistic.

But here’s the thing: without posting here, I wouldn’t have clients—because people wouldn’t know what I do.

Building a personal brand and sharing my work has actually helped me clarify and get more confident about my goals. Plus, it allows me to do more of what makes me happy.

So, if you’re staring at your feed, knowing a bit of visibility wouldn’t hurt but feeling like you’ve got nothing to share, here are three nudges that could get you started:

  • Be helpful. As a branding fan, I’m big on the give and get approach. If you want something from your LinkedIn crowd, you should provide something valuable first. Maybe an approach that helped you in the past, a story that people can relate to—or you could connect two people you think would click. Posting feels less icky when your goal is to support others.

  • Niche down. Instead of feeling like you should be posting about all of the things and be an expert on every topic, you could focus on what really matters to you. When you’re clear about your expertise, people will recommend you more confidently—you’ll get opportunities that match you and connect with like-minded people. Bonus: pinpointing your strengths and values helps offline, too.

  • Curate your feed. If posting doesn’t feel like an option yet, you could start by engaging with other posts. A heart here, a thoughtful comment there, you’ll be popping up on people’s feeds and might build up some confidence. Block and unfollow what makes you upset. LinkedIn will slowly but surely figure out what works for you and adapt your feed. Once it feels like a nice place to be, you might even want to post something yourself.

And I promise, it's worth it.
